Geophysical Log Images

Most geophysical logs typically have a header with information regarding the well including name, company, and location. Logs are labeled with the API number which consists of three sets of digits separated by dashes. The first two digits indicate state (Nevada is 27). The next three digits indicate county (Elko is 017, Lincoln is 017, Nye is 023, and White Pine is 033). The last five digits are assigned sequentially for each county.

Log curves usually are displayed on two tracks. The right track is the main part of the log indicated by the title of the log such as resistivity, acoustic, sonic, porosity, and so on. The left track displays supplemental logs such as caliper, SP, natural gamma, and so on. The name of each log in the folder for a well is an abbreviation of the log title. For instance, the abbreviation “res” indicates the log is a resistivity log. Abbreviations and their meanings are listed in the table below. No attempt is made herein to interpret any of the logs.
