Bristlecone Convention Center

An update of the USGS/DRI BARCASS project activities in White Pine County and adjacent areas, as well a discussion of planned and potential modeling efforts in eastern Nevada and western Utah. In addition to the presentations, time will be scheduled for questions and answers.

Don Sweetkind presented an update of the geology, geophysics, and hydrogeology BARCASS efforts. The update followed a brief overview by Alan Welch of other project activities.

Joint County Commission Meeting: May 23, 2006
Baker, Nevada

Alan Welch, USGS chief of the BARCASS project, presented an overview of the project and a vision for future work at a joint county commission meeting. The meeting included commissions from White Pine County (Nevada) and Millard County (Utah).

Wayne Belcher with the Nevada Water Science Center discussed USGS ground-water modeling as a tool for management of water resources in Nevada. Alan Welch, USGS BARCASS project chief, presented a brief update of geologic and recharge/discharge activities.

The BARCASS leaders discussed work elements on December 1, 2005, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at the Bristlecone Convention center in Ely and at 7:00 PST in Baker, Nevada. The work elements include geology, recharge, discharge, ground-water flow, geochemistry, data integration, and data synthesis. The leaders were available for questions both during and after the formal presentations.

Kimball Goddard, Patrick Lambert, Victor Heilweil, Alan Welch, and Donald Sweetkind discussed progress and plans of the BARCASS project in Baker, Trout Creek, and Ely on October 4 and 5. Don Sweetkind provided an overview of the geology and geophysics of eastern Nevada as applied to furthering the understanding of the hydrology of the BARCASS project area. Interest in the project was evident by the lively question and answer periods.
