Flood zone designation definitions
Late spring runoff produced flood conditions in the Fallon area. Flooding was accentuated by floodwater releases from Lahontan Reservoir.

Type of event: rapid warming
Description:
The snowpack in the Carson River basin as in much of the northern Sierra Nevada for May 1, 1983, was, on average, greater than 200 percent of normal. Rapid warming with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees by the last week of May triggered rapid snowmelt.
