Rain/Rain-on-Snow Event
Warm rains following a substantial build-up of mountain snowpack earlier in the season produced flood conditions in Carson Valley. Precipitation at the National Weather Service (NWS) Woodfords, Calif., and Minden, Nev., gages indicate significant precipitation recorded for November and December 1981. Precipitation totals at the NWS Woodfords gage exceeded 3 inches from February 15 to the 16th, suggesting a rain-on snow event by the warm temperatures recorded during this period.
