Study Information

Four micrometeorological stations were established in the Diamond Valley study area to estimate net evapotranspiration in various land-use types. At each station, ground-water levels and precipitation volumes were collected. This data will be used to characterize annual variability in net evapotranspiration. Net evapotranspiration is total evapotranspiration minus precipitation and includes direct evaporation of soil moisture and shallow ground water, and transpiration by phreatophytic vegetation. A fifth station was deployed in north Diamond Valley in the summer of 2009 to provide estimates of net evapotranspiration in a large discharging playa.
