Carson River Basin
July 1875
Summer Convective Storm Event
No recorded precipitation is available. Information is anecdotal. For several days prior to the flood, a massive convective storm was in the process of building and culminated in heavy rains on July 25, 1875 (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1973; 1977). Heavy rains, combined with bare soils from logging in King's and Ash Canyons, caused severe flooding in those watersheds. Carson City was inundated with floodwaters from King's and Ash Canyons, and one location on Carson Street on the west side of town became a shallow lake for several days.
